Now the principal at Curate Entertainment in Los Angeles, Ryan Ly served for more than 12 years as the head of the television literary department at Creative Artists Agency. Before launching his career in Hollywood, Ryan Ly graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he remains involved as a member of the Orrery Society.
Established in 2008, the Orrery Society is a recognition society for alumni and other individuals who support the enhancement of the university library’s information resources. The mission of the society is two-fold. First, it aims to increase the availability of scholarly information through funding new acquisitions and the conservation of existing resources. Fundraising is an important part of a thriving university library. In one year alone, the UPenn library system spent $17 million on new acquisitions.
Secondly, the society works to raise awareness about the importance of stewarding library resources to the fulfillment of the university’s mission. The society began 10 years ago with 90 inaugural members. It now has over 200 members who together have raised more than $7.5 million to support the library collections.
